Spring eats

Last year we planted asparagus, well I didn't actually plant it Chuck did, and I watched. We purchased 3 year old plants and planted them in a raised bed. After closer inspection we discovered the roots were planted upside down. Redo!! Then a week later the raised bed collapsed, dirt, plants and the wood box, in a big heap. Chuck salvaged what he could and put the plants in pots to be replanted later. We did get an occasional spear here and there, but expected nothing to ever come of them. Needless to say after a wonderful summer of many other veggies they were forgotten. The pots never got touched and then were left out over the winter. Well what was the first thing to be seen this spring in those pots? A couple of spears which we added to the bunch we bought at the grocery store and Joba ate some also. Which of course I wondered at the time if asparagus makes the dog's pee smell funny. Sorry.... I digress from the point for some quick lols. Anyway the spears appear in one day and not all at the same time, making it unfit for anything but a snack. If we don't get it that day, the next it looks like a fern and not edible anymore.
There is an up side to collapsed heap of dirt.... this year we have Strawberries growing there. I did not plant them which means they piggie backed in the dirt fill from our recycle center in town. Yeah bonus!

  1. Nice, we planted more asparagus this year too. Yesterday we planted our onions and carrots. I can't wait to start planting everything. This weekend hopefully will be a better one then last weekend. We are actually going to plant a KIWI tree this year. How fun will that be?!?!?!?!
