Since the trees are not so green I wanted to start thinking green again. I'll be honest I have not been doing a good job. In fact since trying to go green I think I may have inadvertently become more wasteful. Shame on me. I probably am not more, just really more aware.
For starters I plan to shop the farmer's market as soon as it opens. Not to mention the giant garden being built in my backyard, where I will shop too.
Here is an update on some things I tried. I tried the non deodorant deodorant. Yeah...... I smelled. I can not smell I work with people. It would be fine if say, I saw no one.... EVER. I still have a raging zip loc addiction. I can not give it up. I like to store stuff until it grows mold and I have to throw it out. It's fun! I love the guessing game of what it used to be. Baking soda toothpaste. Yuk!! Shampoo with honey equals flat hair. I'm sure there are more things but lets update on the good green. The lotion with honey equals smooth skin especially after sunburn. I am using green cleaning products, and I'm refilling containers instead of throwing them out. Recycling is fun, but not new to the household. I'm careful to look at every piece of plastic to see if it can go in to the bin, that part is new. And finally I think I'm better with all the paper recycling than before. Oh and I carry my canvas bags where ever I go. If I get plastic bags I put them in the container at the market for bag recycling. That's the scoop.

Windpower off NJ shores
I hope this is the beginning of forward thinking. NJ seems to be more in touch with the real issues facing the planet. I hope other states will step up as well. Only time will tell. http://www.northjersey.com/news/aroundnj/Wind_power_to_light_up_NJ.html

Is the grass greener?
Thought I would give an update on going green. Well let's see.... I'm more aware of what I throw out. The junk mail is never ending. I have to rip up 4 to 6 pieces of credit card approvals a day. No one should ever get that many. How much credit is out there to give? Hmmm wonder why so many are in debt? I'm looking into a way to get that to stop. To much paper.
I love the BeeCeuticals products for the hair and body, I got a few weeks ago. I smell good.
I bring my lunch 4 times a week. Which includes minimal plastic, I use little glass containers instead. And no Styrofoam from take out.
I try to do the speed limit, very hard to do without getting killed. It 's a Jersey thing.
I started reaping the benefits from my garden, peppers and small tomatoes.
My new "green things" I want to try. Making bread, using less paper products and I would like to get some chickens. I know the chickens part, of that sentence, will not fly at my house. Anyway..... I would love fresh eggs everyday. Oh well, not going to happen. The bear might get them, before eggs. Speaking of which.... Joba (my dog) met up with his first bear. It was a good encounter. They saw each other and both knew the other was there, but the bear kept going. I was out there too. Yay for me, I get to join in that fun. Hey, I want to continue living the "boondock" life. I don't really live in the boonies, more like the rural suburbs. I just like using that "boondocks" reference from the other day.
Also I have much to say about the positively negative people, but I'll make today's short. Ignore this section if you are positive. Imagine putting the same effort toward being happy, that is put towards being unhappy, the results may be positive. Orrrrr keep doing it the same way, it works. Right? Getting exactly what is expected out of life. Oh yeah that's sarcasm. I just happened upon a sad little human, all why typing this out. My two cents buys nothing, but I do have this as an outlet. Good for me!

NJ getting on board
Wow, NJ is proposing a new bill. The new bill proposes no NJ sales tax on energy efficient products. This would mean eliminating the 7% sales tax on energy star products including refrigerators, air conditioners, ceiling fans and fluorescent bulbs. Yay for doing their best. Well they could do better, but it's a start.

Plastic
Ho hum, things are boring right now. More about going green. I'm thinking up ways I can reduce my plastic habit. Yes I have an addiction. I love ziploc. I freeze bulk items in plastic bags all the time. I defrost later in smaller quantities. The plastic containers are the best thing since sliced bread, but healthwise it is bad to keep heating them. Throwing them away contributes to landfills. What am I going to do? If anyone has some suggestions what to use instead of plastic. Let me know.

Green for a day
My cousin and I got together recently and we talked about food, energy, the planet, children (because she is having a baby in 17 days). While we chatted and chatted , I mentioned I would like to blog some of my thoughts. It seems like a great place to get feedback, but mostly I love to tell people what I think, whether they care or not. I guess I'm opinionated. It is not the worst thing, but I think all my friends have heard my BS once to many. So I'm venturing into new territory to see if someone else would like to hear it or comment on it.
Today's thing is I'm attempting to go green. It is my Gen X duty. Since it seems to me that our hippie parents were not so hippie after all. Blame it on the eighties. Anyway I'm reading some books and I'll see were it goes. As some people who might not know me. I try numerous new things all the time. Most of the time it goes no where.
Going green is not as cheap or as easy as one may think. I've done the simple and small things first. I've switched to compact fluorescent bulbs. I use reuseable totesand containers (mug or stainless steel) , and I've switched to natural bath products. That means all natural. No chemicals or words I can't pronouce or spell. I have a hard enough time spelling and speaking. If one person trys at least one act of greenery a day. We could be closer to a green planet. My next act is to try to go one day without cosuming. What does that mean for me. I will not buy my iced coffee tomorrow. I will be they only person in my office not running on Dunkin. UGH..... I will not be opening my wallet for anything gas or otherwise. we will see. I'll update tomorrow...
